ABOUT

Life is not a montage. It is a thousand short films back-to-back that illuminate our victories, tragedies, and revelations. Each life intersects others until it becomes apparent that the whole of a person is not an abandoned room full of reels, but an epic. That's why the creative minds at Mosaic and Awaken are bringing you the 2008 Mosaic LA Film Fest (MOLAFF) where we are challenging visionaries with Wide Awake, a theme that encourages artists to bring the broken things of the world to the cutting room floor and explore what remains: the raw, often-hidden beauty of the human story. Our vision sprang from the need for truthful filmmaking and personal expression that is at once wildly imaginative and unflinchingly introspective. We want work that skims the surface but plunges unexpectedly into a story that speaks to the heart. We want to hear what an epiphany sounds like to a character who has never heard a word. We want to see the future in the flash of a child's eyes. We want to see what the hand shooting heroine would look like administering a vaccine.

We want to spotlight the storied potential of humanity.

At MOLAFF, we believe that everyone has the potential to lead a high-concept life. The festival is not only a place to showcase provoking art, but a public discussion, a catalyst for change where all participants will walk away with their passion for life re-ignited. The festival will give filmmakers the opportunity to engage their art, beliefs, and purpose to create inspired, meaningful films. MOLAFF will be a forum to unleash the potential of the creative genius inside because there is a hero within each of us who has a burning desire to live a life of unfettered dreams. Our theme, Wide Awake, will focus on eight concepts: Dream, Explore, Adapt, Create, Invest, Enjoy, Focus, and Expect. Using one or more of these concepts, this year's filmmakers are encouraged to submit projects that move us toward how to live life wide awake...
